"MORE MUSICAL MOMENTS"
Winterbourne Community Centre
October 1998
Producer Ian Williams; Musical Director Mick Quick
With excerpts from five shows on offer, Winterbourne kicked off to a fine start with Cabaret, set in a Berlin night club and the Master of Ceremonies 'Willkommen' us in style. Sally Bowles made tremendous impact as the star of the cabaret with good voice ana stylish delivery. Mary Poppins' numbers followed with full company involvement including charming chimney-sweeps and a touchingly sung 'Feed the Birds'.
To end the first half there were four numbers from Cats with Gus the Theatre Cat naturally stealing the show. The evening continued with rousing mens' choruses from rarely heard 'Paint Your Wagon' which brought us to the memorable Finale from Les Miserables. Creating atmosphere and contrast with drama, comedy and pathos, Winterbourne brought their well-received show to a splendid Finale.
Special mention must be made of the moving solos of Eponine and Valjean and the commitment of the whole company. More movement and some judicial grouping would have enhanced this enjoyable production but top marks to the follow spots, highlighting the solos so effectively. Well dressed throughout, the production was supported by a talented trio accompaniment of keyboards and percussion. Thank you Winterbourne and for your warm welcome.
